Floral Byrdie Buttonup With PussyBow Collar
Hello Internet Friends!
Today I’m sharing the second Byrdie Button-Up that I’ve recently made (my first version can be found here!) I knew as soon as I was done with the first Byrdie that I would be sewing up a second one pretty quickly. When I saw Casey had made a tutorial to add a Pussybow collar I knew instantly that that was going to be my second iteration.
Again, thanks to my handy dandy Trello based fabric stash recording I was able to #ShopMyStash and dig up this beautiful Floral Rayon Voile that I got ages ago from BlackBird Fabrics. What I really like about the way I have my Trello set up is that I have a board just for planning projects where I can pair a pattern with a stashed fabric and start to make some plans. If I decide to move forward with a planned project I then move that list to my ‘Cut Projects’ board, this is great because I often batch cut so that I only have to get my cutting table set up once but then sometimes I forget what projects I already have cut and ready to sew! Finally, when a project is all done i move that project list to my ‘Finished Projects’ board which is a handy way of seeing all of the projects I’ve completed over the last year! Let me know if you guys would like a more in-depth blog on my process of fabric storage and project planning!
My original plan for this particular button up was to have it all ready to wear for my first day of work at my new job! (So happy at my new job BTW!) But, due to COVID-19, my first day coincided with the first work from home week for the company, so while I had the whole blouse ready sans buttons it sat for a while on the dress form….I finally decided to go ahead and put the buttons on and take it out for a spin despite working from home right now. Taking pictures for this blog post was a fun way to get dressed up and spend some time outside even if that time was to just pop out to my usual photoshoot area and snap a few pics lol.
I really love how this button-up turned out, the rayon voile has lovely drape and is perfect for the bishop sleeves which I opted for in this version. It’s kind of a shame that it doesn’t photograph as well as I would like. In person you can really see the pussybow but in pictures it kind of blends into floral motif. The pleats also add a lot to the finished look in person but are hard to photograph.
I can really see this blouse working really well with a nice blazer for more formal work events but also working well on it’s on for regular work days. (Also I now have the perfect excuse to sew up a blazer to go with my Byrdie Button-Ups!). It may be a few more weeks (months?) before I’ll be able to wear this to my new job, but for now this blouse will bide it’s time in my closet, ready to go for post pandemic!
Again I hope everyone is doing well this week! Keep on sewing and knitting and DIYing, or just vegging out, whatever you need to get you through this crazy time! Socially distant/Internet high fives and hugs from me! :D
