Hello Internet Friends!

I was very slow to join the jumpsuit train when they first started to become more popular a few years back but a quick search for ‘jumpsuit’ or ‘romper’ on here and you’ll find that I quickly converted to team jumpsuit once I had sewn one or two ‘becca sized’ ones. This is another ‘why I love sewing my own clothes moment’ I never would have tried out jumpsuits or maxi dresses if I didn’t sew because trying on RTW ones means looking like a toddler in adult sized clothes in the change room and then trying to envision how the pieces would look when appropriately shortened. With sewing I can make my short adjustment upfront (and save on fabric from the get go!) along with any other petite adjustments and have one less critical thought about myself when I try things on.

Hello Internet Friends!

Sweater weather is fast approaching, and while I honestly can’t wait (I have a ton of quarantine knits that I can’t wait to finally wear!) I want to also squeeze every last drop of the sunshine and nice weather before the rainy fall really starts! To help keep the summer vibes going I whipped up this summery Gilbert Top by Helen’s closet and another pair of Lander shorts (this time in a breathable linen) by True Bias patterns.

Hello Internet Friends!

Today I’m sharing another summery make despite it being September already! (Does anyone else feel like this year has simultaneously lasted around 5 years but also feels like we’re only a few months into the year at the same time?) Summer looks like it’s going to stick around for a little longer here in Vancouver, so I took the opportunity to sew up some more super breathable linen projects! I’ve been really loving the linen this summer, we don’t have AC at home so it’s really nice to wear something so breathable while working and while socially distancing around the city, which is how these pictures were taken! Since 2016 Vancouver has hosted a yearly mural fest featuring both local and international artists! I highly recommend checking out the murals (there’s a handy app with a map and info on each one) if you happen to live in Vancouver or plan on visiting (post-pandemic obviously) I would highly recommend taking yourself on a self guided mural walking tour like we did! I’ve noted the artists for each mural in the pictures in the caption of the first image featuring that mural if you want to check out some of these artists further!

Linen Hanna Tank and Winslow Culottes

In keeping with the sunny weather we’ve been having I have a two more summer makes to share with you! My linen Hanna Tank by Pattern Scout and another pair of Winslow Culottes by Helen’s Closet. The Winslows are one of my tried and true patterns, this is the second or third pair of shorts I’ve made from this pattern. For this iteration I used a bright yellow viscose linen noil from Blackbird fabrics. As with my previous pink pair, I opted for the elastic backed waistband, I meant to try out the slanted pocket hack with this pair but forgot when I cut the fabric (which I actually did way back in March as I had intended to finish this pair in time for my trip to Bali but then never got to sewing it until now). All of the sizing and everything has remained the same since my last pair which you can check out in this post here. I used my brand new set of wide rolled hem feet to quickly hem up this pair of culottes which meant that I was able to finish sewing the whole pair in one short afternoon! This is why I love having patterns pre-cut for me to sew, when the motivation/need to sew strikes I can just have at it!

Linen Free Range Slacks

Hello Internet Friends!

It’s been a bit of a ‘June-uary’ here on the west coast, really rainy and cold, but it finally looks like the weather has turned and we are getting some really nice summery sunshine which means I was finally able to snap some blog photos! Today I’m sharing my latest fave pant, the Free Range Slacks by Sew House Seven. Now, if you’ve been following my blog or instagram for a while you’ll know that my all time favourite pant is the Mid Rise Ginger Jeans, and while gingers are still at the top of the list, the free range slacks are a nice ‘jeans alternative’ without being full on ‘trousers’ (I’ve never been much of a trouser girl but things can change!).
